ART Santa Fe, July 23-26, 2009
The ninth edition of ART Santa Fe, scheduled for July 23-26, 2009, will once again be held in El Museo in the Railyard Art District in downtown Santa Fe. With the Railyard District now com- pleted and the New Mexico Railrunner Express in full operation, there is an esprit de corps that has already created a hum in the City Different. So mark your calendars and come aboard for a memorable set of special events in Santa Fe this summer.
ART Santa Fe’s 2008 turnout of some 5,000 people over four days, left gal- lerists, artists, collectors, and curators feeling that the fair was a wonderful success. An eager and interested audi- ence had a great response to a wide range of work, including mixed media and video installation. ART Santa Fe 2009 promises to recreate the excite- ment with the opening night Vernissage as well as a flurry of special events in the Railyard area.
ART Santa Fe 2009 offers exhibitors and visitors the opportunity to enjoy the most beautiful time of year in this unique and interesting city. Santa Fe’s rich cultural mix includes performances at the award-winning, open-air theater of the world-renowned Santa Fe Opera, with sunset and stars forming part of the backdrop, and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. Numerous outdoor activities take advantage of our ideal climate and allow visitors to enjoy the famed beauty of the New Mexico landscape. Our website will provide information on many of the events you can enjoy during and after ART Santa Fe.
ART Santa Fe 2009 will again bring together the best in contemporary art from the international art community and across the country. Make ART Santa Fe your destination this summer. Be there.

“People, a Plague on the Planet? Exploring the causes of ecological degradation in Islamic Portugal by Scott Worman Ruth E. Kennedy Award Lecture Archaeological investigations of human impacts on the environment involve a series of related research problems:
demonstrating when and how the environment changed in the past; examining whether human activities contributed to that change; and attempting to discern why people acted in the ways that they did. In this case study, multidisciplinary approaches are used to investigate human-environment interactions during the past two millennia in a study area in southern Portugal.
