Albuquerque balloon musuemThe award winning Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is a world-class museum featuring programs and collections spotlighting the history, culture, art, sport and science of ballooning. The nearly 60,000 square foot museum is a colorful, educational and entertaining journey from the earliest flights of the 1700s to the future of ballooning.

Operated by the City of Albuquerque, the museum opened with rave reviews in 2005 during the International Balloon Festival. The combination of the Balloon Festival and the Anderson-Abruzzo Museum make Albuquerque the “World Capital of Ballooning.” The scoop and quality for the museum’s exhibits do more than just capture and relive the pioneering flights of local heroes like Ben Abruzzo and Maxie Anderson, they reflect the interest in ballooning that has captivated people the world over. These exhibits include a tremendous variety of ballooning memorabilia, postage stamp sets, coins, manuscripts and rare books from around the world.

The museum has something for everyone. Families and children will especially enjoy the interactive exhibits that are both fun and educational, covering such topics as understanding the properties and differences of gas balloons vs. hot air balloons and weaving your own gondola basket. A crowd favorite is the flight simulator that tests your ability to take off and land. There is also a full range of classroom activities and crafts focusing on basic ballooning knowledge, weather and age-appropriate scientific principles that pertain to ballooning.

The museum is located adjacent to Balloon Fiesta Park, providing unbelievable views of hundreds of colorful balloons every year during the balloon fiesta. And as one of the most dynamic facilities in all of Albuquerque, it is the perfect venue for banquets, weddings, meetings, parties and other special events.

Future plans for the museum call for a multi-purpose theater with a moving platform and further development of exterior landscaping.
