New Mexico is famous for its art communities. You can find everything from folk art to sculptures to stained glass and paintings from artists like Georgia O’Keeffe and Peter Heard. But in case you are wondering, there is more to experience in our museums than art – there is something intriguing to discover in each corner of the state. Visit the Smokey Bear Historical Park in Capitian, the Clovis Depot Model Train Museum, the National Atomic Museum in Albuquerque, or the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces, just to name a few.

Looking for additional ways to experience New Mexico history and culture? Throughout the summer and fall months, you can find a unique festival somewhere in the state each weekend. Events like the Deming Duck Races show off New Mexico’s quirky side while the International Balloon Fiesta brings together the largest collections of hot-air balloons and pilots in the world. 

Are you looking for a destination that will expand your minds horizons and challenge your way of looking at the world? New Mexico has world-class technology development at two national laboratories, observatories and of course the soon to be build Spaceport America. Have you ever wondered if there really is life out there? The Very Large Array might have the answer – although I would not count on the telling you! Like someone famous once said, those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it…or something like that. History is abound in New Mexico. Did you know there is a Civil War battlefield in New Mexico? Want to grab hold of the same jail-cell bars that once held Billy the Kid? New Mexico’s history is as colorful as it is long and it surrounds you were ever you are

Now that you have had your fill of art, culture, history and technology, let’s have some fun! How about playing golf one day and hitting some of the best ski slopes in the country the next? You can in New Mexico. What to hit the slopes but don’t like the cold, don’t worry, we can handle that too. White Sands National Monument offers visitors over 275 square miles of pure white gypsum dunes perfect for “white sand surfing” and a picnic. Looking for a bit more adventure? How about hiking the La Luz Trail to the top of Sandia Peak and riding the Sandia Peak Tramway back down as you watch the sun set over the Albuquerque skyline?  What did you say, you’re feeling lucky? Well New Mexico has horse racing and Indian gaming throughout the state. So with 13 national monuments and parks, five national forests, 29 state parks, countless gaming opportunities, New Mexico can satisfy the itch for exploration, excitement and adventure in everyone. 

Like hot food – New Mexico is the place for you. The official state question is red or green?, referring to the type of chile you like – and the hotter the better! In New Mexico it is ok to put chile on your eggs, burger – there is even a place in Las Cruces where you can get chile in your ice cream!
